Junior Rangers in Sandy Lake learned how to make emergency stoves last weekend.  13 Junior Canadian Rangers spent two days in outdoor skills training that also included ice fishing and snowmobile safety.

The group was led in by JCR Master Corporal Rodney Rae, Sgt. Carson Fiddler, JCR Warrant Officer Mark Kendall, Canadian Ranger Glen Kakepetum and newly sworn-in Canadian Ranger Fabian Groves.

Junior Rangers Sierra Linklater and Desire Noon brought their emergency stoves into the band office on Monday to show Chief and Council.  The stoves are constructed from tin cans, cardboard, and candle wax.

Thunder Bay Broom and Chemical donated 11 ice fishing rods  to the Canadian Rangers group.  Brad Caruthers, a stove installer and technician, also donated a cd player to the Junior Rangers.
