Official Statement

On August 30, 2012, the Chief and Council of Sandy Lake First Nation held a meeting concerning two individuals who are in Sandy Lake as guests.

Sandy Lake First Nation openly welcomes and encourages visitors to our First Nation but expect certain courtesy in return.  The Chief and Council of Sandy Lake First Nation are responsible to promote harmony, peace and well-being in the community.

At the meeting with the Chief and Council, along with the Elder’s Council, there was careful deliberation regarding these two individuals.  One of the individuals has outstanding court conditions.  Since these two individuals are not band members and did not request permission to enter into our traditional territory, these two individuals have been instructed to leave at the earliest possible time at their own expense.

Sandy Lake First Nation has the authority to take action and will continue to assert and exercise its sovereignty.
