Public Statement #6:  Evacuees continue to arrive home

July 31, 2011

After five full days of evacuees returning to Sandy Lake, approximately 1250 residents have arrived home.

The community was fully evacuated starting July 18, 2011 because of forest fires in the area.  Sandy Lake has a band membership of 2741.

Evacuees remain in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, and Sioux Lookout.  It is hoped that everyone will be home by Wednesday, August 3, 2011.

Monday, August 1

Approx. 55 evacuees in Winnipeg.

All remaining Stage 2 evacuees in Thunder Bay.

Tuesday, August 2

160 evacuees (Stage 1 and remaining Stage 2) in Sioux Lookout.

Stage 1 and remaining Stage 2 evacuees in Thunder Bay (number to be determined).

Wednesday, August 3

All remaining Stage 1 and Stage 2 evacuees in Thunder Bay.
